I purchased Coco Noir several years ago, it was my second Chanel perfume, the first “grown up” representative after Chance eau Tendre. Chanel no 5 (and two other variations of it) smells amazing on my coworkers but smells like urine on me.

Coco Noir is not dark and mysterious as one might expect from the name and the beautiful black bottle. The noble accord of Egyptian Jasmine and May Rose, the signature of CHANEL Parfums, gives depth and sensuality to the composition. Initially I felt a bit indifferent about it because I love sweet gourmand scents but it has grown on me tremendously. At first, I didn't like it, but when I tried it on myself, it revealed a completely different scent. The initial blast was very unappealing to me, followed by the clove note quickly popping through and there it stayed…far too long for me.This feels a little more organized than Mademoiselle, actually, but both are very *deliberate* (it's a weird way to describe things, but I struggle to find the verbiage for this vibe). Chanel Coco Noir Eau de Parfum for women brings spellbinding sensuality to light in a contemporary and modern way. Not to discredit Mademoiselle's beauty, it's strong and is one of the pillars of patchouli fragrances but it's a bit overdone and redundant with the sweet citrus syrup notes. Has some aspects in common with Coco Mademoiselle (the same sour patchouli), but it's more green, more sour, juicier and more perfume-y, mixing aspects of old-style perfumery with the simpler scents of the latest decades.

A: Chanel Coco Noir was created in 2012, offering a contemporary and modern interpretation of Chanel's fragrance line. But Coco Noir has a darker, more mature and resinous edge that makes it excellent for cooler climates, evening events and even the boardroom. I've recently fallen for the Chanel allure - the bottles, the prestige, the classy aesthetic, all of it is getting to me in the best way. I don’t know what note is in this that makes my nose burn, but I was gravely disappointed, as it smells nice on paper.Really wanted to continue liking this fragrance as much as the first hour of wearing it but patchouli had to come and ruin all the ambery vibe of it for me. I have had this perfume now for an incredibly long time and now that I have all of my thoughts together.

I used to feel more drawn to this, but with experience now I realize I like my fragrances with more character, especially if they cost quite a lot. There's something about Coco Noir that reminds me of the perfumes with beastly power mode from the 1980's, eventhough this fragrance was released back in 2012. I am pleasantly surprised by Coco Noir, but in my opinion it's more similar to Coco Mademoiselle rather than the original Coco. Coco Noir reminds me of a cross between Coco OG and Coco Mademoiselle, with a little bit of an airier, nuttier aspect that makes me think of coconut milk although Coco Noir doesn't smell at all tropical. It’s my go to work perfume and the only perfume I’m considering re-purchasing as it’s inoffensive and timeless. As much as I love the phrase "nocturnal Baroque," I don't think Coco Noir fits that descriptor; I think OG Coco is closer to my idea of a nocturnal Baroque--it's much more complex and multilayered. An eau de toilette like this one is a solid option for a woman who is seeking something with less sillage because this kind of fragrance has a lower concentration of essential oils, generally between 5% - 15%. Chanel is perhaps the most prominent in the world of perfumes thanks to the timeless Chanel N°5 but also to the more recent creations Gabrielle and Coco Madmoiselle.

Something about this reminds me of the long discontinued Aviance Night Musk which is a very good thing. It becomes very present about 30 minutes in, and it's the facet that remains on my skin and clothes long after the rest of the scent has vanished. Naturally, like all fragrances of the legendary French brand, Chanel Coco Noir is expensive and noble.Beautiful fragrance, it begins fresh and spicy, then becomes richer, darker oriental with a floral touch, it dries down with a beautiful rose note embraced with sandalwood. The reason for Coco Mademoiselle's bestseller status over the years is because it's elegant, tasteful, and very "millennial". There was something very melancholy and just closed off about this one despite the yummy and elegant notes. Now if you are somewhat drawn to Coco Mademoiselle but find her to shrill, sharp and rebellious then maybe this is worth a try.
