The Dad Pad - covering all the essential information dads told us they need to know and presented in a step-by-step, manual style so it’s easy to follow and understand.

Cllr Lorraine Beardmore, cabinet member for culture, leisure and public health said: “I am thrilled that the city council has been able to work with the team at DadPad to launch this fantastic free app in Stoke-on-Trent. The Cornish and Scillonian themed ‘Dad Pad’ recognises the important role dads play in bringing up their children and supporting mum. Crucially, the app provides dads with guidance on how to support and seek help (when required) for their partners and themselves as they adjust to their new roles. The DadPad was developed with the NHS to give new dads the skills and confidence to give the best care to their newborn, and the best support to their partner. Being a parent of a child in neonatal care can come with a lot of other emotions and problems to deal with, and DadPad Neonatal can offer additional help and support.

Whether you are about to become a dad for the first time, or want to ensure that you can still cover all bases with a new addition to your family, the DadPad is the low-cost, high-value resource that you will want to have within arm’s reach at all times.

The guide has been developed with the NHS and gives dads the confidence, knowledge and practical skills they need to look after their new born baby. We expect that it will enable new dads to play an active role in helping improve the health and wellbeing outcomes families in the city.To help understand how people use our site we use statistical cookies, as well as one cookie to make the site work properly and one cookie which remembers your choices if you accept cookies.

Once the app is installed, enter your postcode when prompted and select your local area or hospital. Functional Cookies are enabled by default at all times so that we can save your preferences for cookie settings and ensure site works and delivers best experience. Your local maternity services have partnered up with DadPad to provide free access to the tailored app for Dads in Kent and Medway.Building a strong attachment will not only enable dads to better enjoy their new role but also contribute towards positive long-term social, health and educational outcomes for their babies. Traditionally, lots of information, advice and support is female-focused, but partners can feel equally unsure or overwhelmed. Julia Burrows, Director for Public Health and Communities, said: “It’s brilliant to see the broad range of support available to new parents is continually growing in our borough, supporting families to navigate this new chapter in their lives. You can give your feedback at any time, but ideally we’d like to hear from you from 3-4 months after the birth of your baby.

Rowena added: 'Alongside the DadPad app there is a hard copy DadPad Neonatal book that will support dads when their baby is admitted, planned or unplanned, to the neonatal unit. We listened to what dads, their partners and professionals asked for and combined it all in this new DadPad for dads-to-be.

When dads across Cornwall were asked what would help them in their new role as a father, they asked for a ‘Dad Pad’. Having chosen to invest in including and engaging with dads-to-be, and wanting to encourage new dads to get involved and come forward with questions and issues they have throughout their partner’s pregnancy and beyond, the DadPad App is free to you. DadPad is designed to reduce anxiety in a number of ways, for example, by helping dads gain confidence by getting involved with their baby’s care, as well as learning how to create a strong bond and build stronger family relationships. Outside of the service working hours, you’ll receive a message back to inform you that your text will be responded to once the line reopens. Developed with the NHS, DadPad gives new dads and dads-to-be the knowledge and skills needed to gain confidence and give their baby the best start in life.
