The intricate plot lines, the pandemic situation, the development of the characters - a great achievement. I have just finished it, I struggled to start with which I think was due to the formatting on my arc from netgalley.

The book touched my heart, but it was a difficult read as the pandemic and lockdowns seem so recent and perhaps it provoked some panicky memories of which I didn’t realise I had until I read this book. There was some uplifting takeaway from the book and I did enjoy all the prescriptions of books for each character I even wrote some down that I would like to try. There are lots of interesting characters in the book and it is surprising just how many different characters appear so that took a little bit of getting used to.It’s the state of mind and heart of the person reading it that will make the book grow into something greater than the words printed in it. However, she introduced wayyy to many secondary characters that were not integral to the main plot and it just got distracting. As requests begin to pour in, what follows is a lovely and heartwarming story full of love, empathy, and the best of humanity.

However, it was a joy to read and I love the idea of a book pharmacy and even reading this book will give you lots more to add your “to read lists”. But, these lockdowns were so different to the way my own country, New Zealand, experienced lockdowns that they didn't even seem like lockdowns. There are quite a few issues covered, and it’s quite clever the way that they’re introduced via the ‘book pharmacy’.Though at times this was a bit real and hard to read about Covid pandemic times again, this was such a gorgeous read. On the whole I found this book to be an uplifting read but there were times I had to put it down and take a moment, thanks to a couple of heart-shattering moments. This beautifully written novel is a tribute to all independent booksellers who have always been creatively bringing readers and books together to comfort, educate, transform, escape, remember, hope, and dream. Thank-you Netgalley and Headline books for approving my ARC request, it was an absolute pleasure to read. I think a part of this was because the story is driven far more by the characters than by the plot and I'd be hard-pressed to define exactly what the plot is. But it worked very well as a flight book - it’s an engaging story with people who got under my skin. The very real aspect of this being set through the pandemic made it quite challenging at times and brought back some of those very weird emotions I know a lot of people felt during such a weird time, but it also reminded me of how much I read at that time and how important books were to me then, when I had nothing else to do but sit and worry. The poignancy of characters and story was phenomenal and it will forever be one of my favourite books. Some of these books I own, and want to read even more now; some I have read and enjoyed the small summery to remind me why I loved them and some that I haven't read, but have now been added to my TBR.
