Sometimes I wonder if the humor is as clear to children as adults, but I certaiinly cracked up with all the jabs/exaggerated characteristics of america (and the president). Ruth sees a spacecraft crashing down to the ground not far from her home so she sneaks out to investigate, where she meets, her soon to be new Friend, Spaceboy. His tenth novel, BAD DAD, was an immediate number one, following the triumph of THE MIDNIGHT GANG, the biggest-selling children’s book of 2016.And it seems David is quite behind on gender stereotypes as there's always some cobblers about boys doing one thing and girls doing another or so-and-so looking/acting like a girl etc.

I loved the writing, the story, the characters, and the illustrations and that is why I can easily see this book becoming a fast favourite with young readers. Space Boy is a non-stop fun-fest, with tons and tons of action, a courageous heroine, a funny furry friend at her side, and an alien with a very, very big secret.Still, the story did have heart and my son enjoyed my dramatic reading even if it was all a bit tiresome for me. An alien on earth is news and the Spaceboy even makes it to The White House to meet a rotund President with an orange face who may or may not seem familiar to many readers.

Not just because it's a different illustrator but he has changed how he illustrates, with some of the illustrations drawn in the style of a comic. This is a blend of lots of slapstick comedy, a sprinkle of history and lots of action and it is sure to have young readers laughing their heads off. Until one night, Ruth creeps out of bed in the attic room of her rickety old farmhouse to watch the stars – and is just dozing off when she spots something blazing across the sky.
