Description

Each tower acts as a boarding house and provides accommodation for about 60 girls, ten in each year group. There is a Matron in each tower and a House Mistress in overall charge. The towers have four storeys, with kitchen, dining hall and common rooms on the ground floor, dormitories on the first and second floors, and staff rooms and storage are on the top floor. The incident in the first book that depicts Darrell pushing over Sally has a close parallel to an incident between Gillian and her younger sister Imogen. [17] The entry in her diary reads:

Miss Johnson puts Gwen in charge of a school dance with the same boys the girls beat in the quiz. Gwen sends Mary-Lou out to find some ivy, and she comes upon a statue that appears to be a quality art piece that she decides to show to Darrell. Meanwhile the boys place some sneezing powder on the cake that could ruin all of Gwen's prep. Daphne Hope known as "Daffy," is Sally Hope's younger sister who arrives during Felicity's sixth year at Malory Towers. Daphne Millicent Turner joins in The Second Form at Malory Towers and initially befriends Gwendoline, before dramatic events throw her together with Mary-Lou, with the two becoming firm friends. Georgina goes to Matron seeking some anti itching medicine only to learn the spots she's broken out in are the measles, forcing her into isolation. Meanwhile Mr. Parker goes to Matron because he's developed a fever. Matron decides to use his time in the nurse's office to read her newly published play. With Mr. Parker out, Sally is left in charge of the second year girls, but can she get them to do their work when all they want is to have some fun?

Whitman Mallory Towers Jigsaws

A work about the girls at Malory Towers in which Darrell becomes Head Girl and finds her last term at Malory Towers is a lively and dramatic one. When Matron's smoked kippers disappear, she suspects there may be a thief at Malory Towers. The mystery is solved when Ellen finds a stray cat in the grounds, but finds herself in trouble when she decides to adopt it. As more caricatures appear, the girls notice a clue that enables them to identify the unknown artist. A school play featuring Lady Jane Malory is planned. Gwen auditions for the lead role with Darrell's help, but things do not work out as she had planned. After the girls discover that Malory Towers may be in financial difficulties, Darrell and Sally embark on a search for Lady Jane's long-lost jewels, but do not allow for Alicia's mischievous nature. Darrell Rivers is the main character of the first six books. Although responsible and hard-working, her hot temper causes her problems, but she learns to control it as she goes up the school. She is very popular with her form. In the upper school she becomes Head of the Fourth Form, games captain in the Fifth and finally, in the Sixth Form, Head Girl of the school. As she gets older at Malory Towers she begins to realise her talent for writing and aspires to be a writer in her adult career.

Violet Forsyth appears in Secrets at Malory Towers as a spoiled snob, frequently boasting about her family's wealth. Sally Hope arrives at Malory Towers at the same time as Darrell, and the two become best friends. Jealousy is a persistent issue with Sally - her resentment of her younger sister is at the root of Sally's withdrawn and odd behaviour during her first term, before matters are resolved. She tries to overcome her jealousy during her time at Malory Towers, but occasionally it continues to be a problem for her. Sally becomes Head of Form in her second year and games captain in the Sixth Form. We follow the girls through six years at the school, sharing in their challenges, disappointments and achievements as they work hard and play hard. Can they live up to Miss Grayling's expectations and turn from inky-fingered schoolgirls into "good, sound women the world can lean on"?Amelie Green as Wilhelmina 'Bill' Robinson (Season 3–4), a tomboyish, sheltered girl who loves horses and keeps a Horse named Thunder, who she considers her “best friend” and insists on seeing. Jason Callender [5] as Mr Parker (Season 2 & 4), the Second Form master for Darrell's form then Felicity's form master. Clarissa receives word that her Father has sold her pony because she's not well enough to ride. Not knowing how to help her Gwen asks Bill to because she's the resident horse expert, but it may lead to Clarissa taking actions no one could expect. And in the process it may lead to Felicity getting in trouble for covering for Clarissa disappearing. Meanwhile Mam'Zelle tries to get closer to Irene as they prepare for the upcoming wedding, but Irene begins to feel like everyone is forgetting her mother and isn't sure how she should act. And she's afraid that Mam'Zelle doesn't want to learn of the Jewish customs her Father and Irene have had throughout her life.

The girls discover a picture with 2 Miss Johnson's in it and realize she is the thief they've been looking for. Mary-Lou realizes the paintings they've done are actually the stolen paintings, so the girls manage to safely remove the paint from one corner to prove Miss Johnson is the thief. Miss Johnson realizes she's been discovered, so she prepares to sneak out during the assembly only to be confronted by Gwen and Bill. Will Miss Grayling believe the girls evidence and allow the real culprits to be caught, or will Miss Johnson escape? Catherine Gray is described as a "doormat," making herself very humble to the other girls and apologising on their behalf in In the Fifth at Malory Towers. Pamela Cox wrote six sequels of the series in 2009 which focus on the adventures of Felicity Rivers, June Johns and Susan Blake: Spoilt, spiteful pupil who enjoys brushing her hair, scowling and acting as a vehicle through which Blyton can relay a succession of clumsy cautionary tales. The girls are now in the second form at Malory Towers. They are joined by newcomers Ellen Wilson, a scholarship girl, and Mr Parker, the new master of the second form. One of the first tasks for the girls is to elect a new Head of Form, and must choose between three candidates. Meanwhile Darrell's dyslexia continues to cause problems for her. In the final book, the girls wonder while scoffing biscuits in the common room if they can really be approaching adulthood when they’re still so teenagerishly hungry all the time. Alicia declares: “Long live our appetites! And may our shadows never grow less!” It shouldn’t sound so radical in 2019 to hear a young woman saying that – but it does. Rice beams. “I want that on a T-shirt. Our appetite for life, our appetite for knowledge, our appetite for food – may we own our place.”
